AN ANCIENT VINE STANDING
AT THE CROSSROADS OF NATURE,
HISTORY AND HEALTH

Learn more about the MotherVine history

Located on Roanoke Island, North Carolina, the MotherVine is the oldest living grape vine in the Americas, over 400 years strong. Some believe it was planted by English settlers. Others maintain that Native Americans from the islands planted it first. Still others swear it sprung up naturally.

The lore and mystique of the MotherVine is surpassed only by its longevity and the supercharged grapes it produces. Its twisting vines gave us the Scuppernong, a form of the native North Carolina Muscadine which thrives amid the soil, sand and the sea. Scuppernongs were grown in Thomas Jefferson's small vineyard and the source of his favorite American glass of wine. The Scuppernong is the official state fruit of North Carolina and is now raised throughout the southeastern US.
